Southampton vs Newcastle

On Sunday, we were lucky enough to take some very excited KS2 children to St Mary's stadium to watch Southampton v Newcastle. As some of you might be aware, getting tickets to watch any Premier League match can be an uphill battle so we were really fortunate to have this opportunity. The dreadful weather at the morning meeting point didn't dampen any spirits as we departed on the 100-mile trip to the stadium. The children soon realised that their biggest challenge of the day would be to resist the temptation of eating all of their packed lunches at once!

On arrival at the stadium, the children made their way towards the gates and took their seats. Just before kick-off, the children respectfully observed a minute's silence for Remembrance Day. As the game kicked off, the children were soon distracted by a fearless pigeon on the pitch and the boisterous travelling Geordie supporters who were in fine voice. Southampton had the better of the early exchanges but failed to bury any of their chances. Failure to bury your chances in the Premier League doesn't go unpunished, as we found out in the 35th minute when Newcastle opened the scoring.

Luckily, the second half brought us plenty more goals as Newcastle ran away with two goals in just 4 minutes. If the children weren't impressed by the travelling fans before kick-off, they certainly were now. Fortunately, we did see one Southampton goal before Newcastle destroyed all hope of a comeback with a stoppage time goal. Tired, hungry but still very excitable, we made our way back to the bus to read our programmes and head home. The children represented the School impeccably on the day and hopefully had a day that will last long in their minds!
