Easter Experience at the Beacon Acitivity Centre Lee Abbey
Year 3 and 4 recently visited the Beacon Activity Centre at Lee Abbey, Lynton to take part in a unique Easter Experience.
On arrival at the Centre pupils were given an introductory by the staff and soon we departed on our own walk to Jerusalem ( a tour around the Abbey grounds). At various points scenes of the Easter Story were acted out by the Centre staff.
Our first scene we came across was “The Last Supper” where the pupils learnt how Jesus took off his robe and washed the feet of his guests and taught his disciples how we are all equal.
Then we walked on to Gethsemane to see “The Arrest”. Judas leading the soldiers to Jesus and them arresting him. We continued to the courtyard for “The Betrayal”. Peter denied knowing Jesus three times before fleeing. We discussed the forgiveness by Jesus and here placed sticks individually on the fire asking for our own forgiveness.
As we then walked towards the top area we came across a scene of “ The Suffering”. Jesus made to wear a thorn crown and carry the heavy cross up the hill. We walked up the hill to the three crosses and were given a paper heart and had a moment of reflection.
Our final scene we came across was at the garden tomb. “ The Surprise”, the big stone rolled to one side and the body of Jesus gone.
We were each given a sunflower seed which we planted in pots to watch hopefully new life appear.
It was a really thought provoking experience which certainly brought the Easter Story to life for the pupils.
