Class 4 - Science Enrichment Day @ SMCC
Some of our Class 4 pupils attended a Science Enrichment Day at South Molton Community College this week. The day gave the pupils the opportunity to develop their scientific skills and carry out experiments in the schools science labs. The day involved a Chemistry, Physics and Biology lesson delivered by the schools Science Teachers.
In Chemistry the pupils looked at Chromatography, experimenting with which coloured dyes are used in felt tip pens, Smarties and M & M’s. They learnt how some colour pigments were pure while others are manufactured.
In Physics they looked at electronic circuits, measuring with an ammeter the voltage used in series and parallel circuits. The pupils identified the change in voltage with increases in cells and/or increase in lamps used.
Finally in Biology the pupils learnt all the parts of a Microscope and how to use it. They carried out an experiment looking at the cells within a fine piece of onion skin.
The day was great with the pupils really gaining an insight into Science subjects and what happens at Senior Schools.
