Class 3 Urban Pioneers
On Thursday this week (13/05), class 3 visited Exeter on the hunt for street art and to learn about city life. When we arrived in Exeter, we took full advantage of a break in the rainy weather to explore the city centre. We read the front of buses to see where they were heading and appreciated Exeter's blend of historic and modern buildings. Members of the public stopped to listen to our class discussions and the children represented the school beautifully. We stopped for a snack in the Guildhall and were given our very own VIP area away from the public. After the toilet, snack and drinks break we set off again to look at Exeter's historic cathedral and modern Princesshay shopping centre. In typical British tradition, the rain didn't stay away for too long, so we headed back to the bus. In an effort to avoid the rain, we embarked on a short journey to the Quay and found shelter to eat our lunch. Much to the pigeon's displeasure, we finished our sandwiches, cleared up and headed over to the subways at Exe bridges. We discussed the difference between vandalism and street art and the children were in awe at some of the artwork on display. The children loved the city adventure, and I am sure they are relishing the writing opportunities that will follow in the coming weeks!
