SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL WELLBEING
At Witheridge Academy, we believe that a child’s sense of self-worth and emotional well-being are fundamental to their success and happiness, both in school and beyond. As part of our vision of Life, Love and Learning to the Full, we are committed to creating a safe, nurturing environment where every child feels valued, respected, and supported. We know that building self-esteem is key to helping children grow into confident, resilient individuals who are ready to face the future with positivity and self-belief.
Children’s mental health and well-being are at the forefront of our thinking. We understand that it is our responsibility to promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, and physical development of our pupils, ensuring that they leave us as well-rounded individuals. Our broad and balanced curriculum is designed not only to promote British values, but also to foster kindness, empathy, and self-confidence—qualities that are essential for lifelong success.
To ensure high standards in promoting well-being and self-esteem, we have implemented the following:
-
A strong safeguarding culture: We take safeguarding very seriously. We are fully committed to our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils. We provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued, and where they feel empowered to express themselves. Our staff are trained to be alert to the signs of abuse and neglect, and we follow strict procedures to ensure that children receive the support, protection, and justice they deserve.
-
A focus on emotional security: We believe that children need to feel emotionally secure in order to thrive academically and socially. Our school offers a range of support systems, including regular check-ins with teachers, pastoral care, and opportunities for children to express their feelings and concerns. This helps to create a culture where every child feels safe to explore their potential and develop a positive sense of self.
-
Building resilience and confidence through learning: Through our curriculum and school activities, we encourage children to take risks, learn from mistakes, and celebrate their achievements. This approach helps build resilience and confidence—important life skills that will support children as they grow.
By focusing on the mental and emotional well-being of our children, we are helping to build their self-esteem and provide them with the tools they need to flourish both now and in the future. This is how we ensure that our vision of Life, Love and Learning to the Full is truly lived out, empowering every child to believe in themselves and their ability to achieve great things.
