Encourage One Another and Build Each Other Up
This week's exceptionally hot weather has certainly presented us with some challenges, but it has also provided many opportunities for our school community to live out our vision of "Encourage One Another and Build Each Other Up."
The wellbeing and safety of our children has been our highest priority throughout the week. Staff have worked hard to ensure that everyone remained as cool and comfortable as possible despite the soaring temperatures. This has included moving learning outside into shaded areas where appropriate, reducing physical activity, encouraging children to spend break and lunchtime in the shade, regularly monitoring classroom temperatures, relaxing our uniform expectations for the two hottest days, and ensuring that children were drinking frequently from their water bottles throughout the day.
Particular adjustments were needed for Class 4, whose classroom in the Hut is our least well-insulated building. To help keep temperatures manageable, the class spent some time learning in the hall and some time outside in the shade. The children adapted brilliantly and continued to engage enthusiastically with their learning.
I would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our staff, who have gone above and beyond to keep children safe, happy and learning under challenging conditions this week. Their care, flexibility and dedication have been greatly appreciated.
Alongside managing the heat, we have also completed our final assessment week of the academic year. These assessments provide teachers with an up-to-date picture of exactly what each child knows and understands, helping us to celebrate progress and identify the next steps for learning as we prepare for the new academic year.
We were naturally disappointed to have to postpone our Sports Days. However, this decision was made with children's safety in mind, and we are delighted that the forecast for next week looks much cooler and hopefully drier! We are looking forward to enjoying these special events together and celebrating the children's sporting achievements in more comfortable conditions.
